ABOUT US

 Who We Are

Welcome to Philippine Christian Gospel School (PCGS) or Kian Kee (her Chinese name). Our school is a tale that spans over half a century. It is a story of overcoming obstacles and the triumph of a vision.

PCGS, standing proudly on an 8,321 square meter lot, situated at the heart of Cebu City, is a product of the concerted action of members of the Cebu Gospel Church.

Since opening its doors in 1948, Kian Kee has graduated countless thousands of Filipino – Chinese students. Raised on a strict regimen of spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical development, many have already attained success in life.

Today, PCGS rides strongly on wings of change, committed even more firmly on achieving its goals toward holistic education, for the new generation of Filipino – Chinese students. New sparkling buildings and a rapidly improving roster of professional educators, adapting to present technology are but a few testaments to the dedication of the School Board, Administrators and Faculty.

PCGS is soaring high, strengthened by the collective faith and trust in God, and supported by the vision of the school’s founders.

We are continuously updating and enriching our school curriculum, academic standards and facilities with the highest level of excellence in order to meet the challenges and demands of the new millennium.

 Brief History

Originally, on our campus there existed two schools and one church building, namely: Kian Kee, the Cebu Institute, and the Cebu Gospel Church. This was way back in 1948. Sometime later, men with vision contemplated the possibility of merging the two schools. Such a dream became a reality in 1964 when Kian Kee and the Cebu Institute (CI) merged to form what was then called Cebu Christian School (CCS). Members of the Cebu Gospel Church moved to their new site at the Osmeña Boulevard in 1965. In 1982, another changed took place. A new institution, the Philippine Christian Gospel School (PCGS), began operating the school. Members of the School Board are members of Cebu Gospel Church.

 Vision / Mission

VISION
A Christ centered learning institution
that produces students who excel
in character and wisdom,
and in favor with God
and all the people

MISSION
A Filipino Chinese School providing holistic quality education
based on Christ's teaching in order to develop students
who will devote their lives to serve humanity
for the glory of God

The mission of PCGS is to educate for life – a life lived for God and others. The school adheres to Biblical principles including its published doctrinal statements.

 Our Core Values

PCGS policies and programs are guided by the following core values:

P – People
The school values its stakeholders – students, parents, teaching and non-teaching staff, alumni, and the sponsoring church.

C – Character
Character says it all! The school values character; hence, the emphasis is on what you are and not what you do. The being is more important than the doing.

G – Growth
Every person has the potential for growth. The school delights in the growth and development of its stakeholders in all aspects. The school’s curricular and co-curricular activities are designed to contribute to the growth and development of students, employees and their families, whether directly or indirectly.

S – Spiritual
Our existence is all about God and He is the center of our being and doing. We strive for excellence in academic and character because of who God is. He is the goal of our teaching and learning.

 Statement of Doctrinal Beliefs

  1. We believe the Bible to be inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
  2. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His personal return in power and glory.
  4. We believe that, for the salvation of lost and sinful men, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
  5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
  6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, that the saved unto the resurrection of life and the lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
  7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

 Educational Philosophy (adapted from ACSI)

Our educational philosophy is based on a God-centered view. We affirm the uniqueness of every learner as God’s special creation – made in the image of God and endowed with various abilities. We teach towards developing their potentials, designing programs that address the different intelligences.

We channel our energies toward the pursuit of high academic standards that will enable the student to pursue the post-secondary education of his/her choosing, whether in college, university or in vocational training areas. Our responsibility is to develop each student to become an integrated whole.

The teacher models Christian living in word and deed. The pupil is to be an active participant in the teaching-learning process. The curriculum is over and above that which is prescribed by the Department of Education with emphasis on Christian values. Bible is a required subject in all levels. We encourage the use of various teaching strategies and technology for as long as these do not contradict the Christian faith. Finally, we recognize that parents play a vital role in the education of their children. Hence, we cooperate closely with parents in every phase of the student’s development.

 Our Profile

Established in 1948, PCGS seeks to integrate biblical faith with academics to prepare students to make solid Christian choices. It is accredited by the Bureau of Immigration and the ACSCU-AAI (Level II).

The school seeks to provide a safe and trusting learning environment where each student is valued and challenged to grow spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially, and physically.

 Culture of the School

As a Christian School, PCGS aims to lead every student to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ and to an authentic Christian Living.

As a Filipino-Chinese School, PCGS aims to foster a genuine love for the culture, traditions and the ideals of the Filipino – Chinese people. PCGS lays stress also the study of the Chinese language. Students through these courses are led to understand and to appreciate the permanent values in Chinese culture.

Through our school policies we create opportunities for all children to develop and extend their skills, knowledge and understanding and for these to be recognized, acknowledged and rewarded in a safe and welcoming environment.

 School Song

Music & Lyrics by Mrs. Elizabeth U. Oh

Though sunshine and rain, or comfort and pain
May always beset us and cause us to question;
Yet Christ is our Rock and our Foundation
Upon which our school forever stands.

She will always be firm and strong
For it is by Christ that she’s been founded;
She will teach, and lead, and guide
Every soul to walk in the right;
Oh, our dear beloved school
Ever true and loyal and faithful
Shall we be always to you.
