DIRECTOR'S TEAPOT

Welcome to the second half of school year 2012-2013. We had just concluded hosting the ACSI Teacher Conference before we, teachers, took off for a break. The conference's theme "Teaching God's Children His Truth," was a timely reminder and challenge to Christian school teachers to stick to the truth. All truth is God's truth; this truth is God's word. In a world where change is the only permanent things, resolute belief in the Bible is a must for all Christian school education. As a Christian school, we must uphold God's word as the absolute truth.

For this quarter, our character trait emphasis is "VIRTUE," which is defined as the moral excellence evident in my life as I consistently do what is right. I think our problem is the latter part of the definition - "consistently doing what is right." There is a Filipino trait we know as "ninjas cogon." This trait describes how a person starts something with vigor, interest and enthusiasm; but after a short while, the person loses interest and stops whatever it is that he/she is doing. Many of us are only good at the start but never got to finish what we started. Hence, we often hear the following scolding, "Finish what you started!" Sounds familiar. We tip our hats to a virtuous person- one who consistently does what is right, even when we have to stand alone. Our memory verse for this quarter, Philippians 4:8, aptly reminds us "whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things."

Think GOD. Think GOOD. Think GREAT. Think about such things (paraphrasing Phil. 4:8)


BLUE LIONS SHINE AGAIN!
Congratulations to the Blue Lions for emerging as the CHAMPION in the Hoopstars (16 under category), an inter-school 3-on-3 basketball tournament. The team has really trained hard to earn this accolade; but I believe that it is the Lord who gave us these victories. HORSES, MEN & GOD
I love horses. Horses portray strength, power, swiftness, and even beauty. The character trait emphasis for this quarter is MEEKNESS. This word in Greek describes a wild horse that had become obedient to its master. The horse hadn't lost any of its power or strength, it was just harnessed and under the control of his master.

In training a horse then, it begins with having the horse submit its will to the trainer without breaking its spirit. Obedience is NEVER optional. You train a horse to listen to you, to ignore anything new; you train a horse to go forward when you ask no matter what is in front of them. You train a horse to depend solely on you, to trust you only. You make all of the decisions. The more you take the leadership role, the less the horse has to worry (www.horseforum.com).

There is much that we can learn from the horses and horse training. Our lives will be so much easier and simpler if we let God take full control. It is surrendering our wills to His lordship without question, without grumbling and without delay. But unlike the horse trainer, God does not force His will upon us. He could have but He did not. Instead, God allows us to make choices. He takes the risk of letting us choose whether or not we will obey him. while this is risky for Him, it is more perilous for us if we choose to disobey. William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army was quoted to have said, "The greatness of man's power is the measure of his surrender." (The Power for True Success, 2001, p. 131).


TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY
Our boys basketball team- the Blue Lions, won the CHAMPIONSHIP in the 2nd Private School Developmental League 2012, High School Division. It was a difficult and tough fight against the Paref Springdale's Titans, the defending champion although from the start our Blue Lions was in control of the game - at least a ten point lead. But in the last quarter, the Titans came in very close to overtake the ten point lead. The final score of 52 and 49, showed that it was a tough fight for our boys. Praise the Lord for giving us this victory. Truly, this victory was a big boost to our team after many years of training. Congratulations to the members of the Blue Lions under Coach Jason Velez for the honor they gave to the school. Praise the Lord; we give back all the glory and honor to God!


TEACHERS DAY
Teachers Day will be celebrated on Sept. 27. Students are encouraged to show their appreciation to their teachers through a simple card or letter. Please be reminded that Sept. 28 is a school holiday. Accounting class on Sept. 29 is also cancelled. Happy Teachers Day!

CAMPUS SECURITY
Per Dep Ed order No. 11, s. 2011, "only bonafide students of the school are allowed inside the school campus during school hours. Visitors, including parents and guardians, are not allowed to enter the school without authorization from the administration." (Section 159 of the Amendments to the Revised Manual of Regulations for Private Schools in the Basic Education).

- We are therefore reminding all parents in all levels that in the morning, it is DROP OFF and GO. This means that as soon as classes start, all parents & guardians are requested to leave the campus. Parents with preschool kids may wait until preschool classes start.

- All lunch bags/packs of elementary & high school students will be received at any of the guard houses (Junquera-Elem) or (Pelaez-HS) between 10:00 am - 12:00 nn. Unless permission to enter is given from the Office of the Student Discipline, waiting inside the campus while children are taking lunch is not allowed.

- Only those with children in preschool may enter the school during dismissal time in the morning. However, these parents/guardians are requested to stay on the covered walk fronting the preschool building. No one is allowed to stand by along the covered walk, the loading/unloading area fronting the elementary building or at the guardhouse.

Parking inside PCGS Campus is a Privilege at the discretion of the Administration.


REMINDERS
1. Parents, please demand to see from your son/daughter a school's PARENTS APPROVAL SLIP, for any in-school or out-of-school activity that is scheduled on a non-school day. Only activities with a Parents Approval Slip are considered official. If no such form is presented, parents, you are not obliged to send child to school or to the venue specified. But for activities otherwise already considered regular (eg. Accounting class, varsity practices held in school), Parents Approval Slip is not required.

2. The school strongly discourages students from going outside of the school for project making, group study, practice for any class or school activity and the like. Sleep-over at a friend/classmate's place to do school or class-related work is also strongly discouraged.

HABITS OF RESPONSIVENESS
Seeing the multitudes, Jesus felt compassion for them because they were distressed and downcast like sheep without a shepherd (Matthew 9:26). When asked for alms but with no silver or gold to give, the apostle Peter invoked the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene and made the lame to walk (Acts 3:6). Paul seizing the opportunity to witness to the Athenians proclaimed that the “Unknown God” that the latter are worshipping in ignorance is in fact God who made heaven and earth (Acts 17:22). At some time or another, we will have to respond to a situation, a query, a request, a command, etc. The fundamental question that we all must respond to is that which determines our eternal destiny – “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved!” What are you doing about the truth? The writer of Hebrews warned, “How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” (Hebrews 2:3).

Jonathan Conrad G. Yu, Grade 5 student, was in Hong Kong last week to represent the country in two math competitions (the 8th Asia Cup Stars of the Olympic Maths Finals & the KMC International Mathematic Contest). In both competitions under the individual category, he finished SECOND PLACE and was awarded TWO (2) silver medals. The Philippine team finished second place after the Hong Kong team; the team from China finished third place.

HABITS OF FAITHFULNESS
The European Journal of Social Psychology published online (16 July 2009) a study on how long it takes to form a habit. The researchers reported that the average time for a person to reach a self-reported automaticity for performing an initially new behavior is 66 days.

Some habits such as study habits, proper table manners, saying polite words, doing simple house chores, etc. need to be developed early in life.

A child also needs to be taught to be faithful.

Faithfulness has to do with “stick-to-it-tiveness.” You don’t give up; you refuse to quit. It is a mindset that requires a person to persist and endure all that is takes to finish and accomplish a task.

In the parable of the talents, the master’s commendation to the servants who did well were the following words, “Well done, good and faithful servant …” Faithfulness was praised and lauded! May God find us faithful in fighting the good fight, running the race and keeping the faith.

BE SENSITIVE TO THE LOSSES AND DISAPPOINTMENTS OF OTHERS - Job of the Bible was perhaps the most misunderstood and misjudged by both friends and enemy (Satan). Satan was convinced that Job only revere and love God because of the divine favors that he was receiving. Satan's hypothesis was - take away everything and everyone that Job enjoys/loves and we will see a Job cursing his creator and "benefactor." Job's friends were worse. They were convinced that Job had gravely sinned against God so that he was deserving of the misfortunes he is experiencing. How far better it would have been if the three friends sustained the days of silence and became the empathetic listeners to their distressed and grieving friend, Job. Many times, that is all what a person needs - a listening ear with a heart!

If I really wanted to make a difference, I would...

REMEMBER SPECIAL OCCASIONS - Special occasions are markers in life. My mother at 83 remembers the birthdays of all her six siblings, six children, thier spouses, 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. It is interesting to note that God wants His people to remember special occasions. On the occasion of the killing of all the firstborn of the Egyptians but sparing the sons of Israel whose door frames were painted with blood, the Lord told Moses: "This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come you shall celebrate it as a festival to the Lord - a lasting ordinance" (Exodus 12:14). Later while wandering in the wilderness, God established more festivals and He gave this instruction: "These are the Lord's appointed feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at that God has done in our lives, most especially, to remember how He saved us and what cost... "This is MY body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me" (Luke 22:19)... God wants us to take time to pause, remember and celebrate the SIGNIFICANCE of the occasion.

It's 2012! 366 days to praise God, bless others & improve oneself; 8784 hours to be occupied in worthwhile projects or empty pursuits... What a lot of time for a lot of activities! Let us not waste away the 527,040 minutes of 2012. Let us purpose in our hearts right now to make every minute of 2012 count for eternity. May I suggest that we continue to make a difference by focusing on this one thing -

PRAY, PRAY, PRAY. Our nation took pride in having two (2) bloodless "People Power." But sad to note that both bloodless revolts failed to bring about the reforms and change we all were clamoring. Fr. James Reuter, S.J. invites all Filipinos to try "PRAYER POWER" instead (as emailed to me). This is no quick fix because prayer is hard work. The person engaging in prayer is like a farmer going to the field from morning till sundown, sometimes under extreme weather conditions, believing and hoping that his labors will bring about a great harvest. The "pray-er" is also like a soldier in battle - he is always on red alert for enemy attacks; the praying person is also like an athlete – persevering in training and committed to win. Somebody penned the following to remind us to pray whatever it takes.

When everything seems to go wrong... just P.U.S.H.!
When the job gets you down... just P.U.S.H.!
When people don't do as you think they should... just P.U.S.H.!
When you can't find the right work... just P.U.S.H.!
When your money is "gone" and the bills are due... just P.U.S.H.!
When people just don't understand you... just P.U.S.H.!

PUSH!... Pray Until Something Happens!

Let us hold on to God's promise when He declared: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.
