DIRECTOR'S TEAPOT
What if the unprecedented and massive devastation caused by Typhoon Yolanda happened to the City of Cebu? What if I had also become one of those who roamed the streets like zombie looking for food, water, for a missing loved one? What if our house had been washed away by water? What if the paved streets of Cebu City had become a cemetery without markers? What if our school had to close down until further notice because there's nothing left of it but broken glasses, falling debris, collapsed walls? What if...?
BUT this did not happen to Cebu City, to me, to you, to us...God was merciful to us so that we can also offer mercy to others. PCGS encouraged and mobilized everyone to give towards those in need. Many of you responded; some gave bottled water, rice and other food stuff, clothes, cash, tent, time and effort.
TO ALL WHO GAVE,
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU
FOR YOUR KINDNESS AND GENEROSITY
P.S. PCGS has accepted 34 students displaced by typhoon Yolanda; they came from different schools in Tacloban and Samar. We warmly welcome each one. We wish them well and pray that by God's grace, they will be able to cope and move on...rebuild their lives, homes and businesses/work as soon as possible. Let us continue to uphold them in our prayers!

WHAT IF Jesus had not come, born as a baby, that first Christmas day? Then, there won't be any Christmas. Therefore, a celebration without Christ on Christmas day would be meaningless...it is a celebration in futility. Let us put CHRIST back into our Christmas this year. Have a blessed Christmas and be a blessing to others!

DIRECTOR'S TEAPOT
Welcome back, everyone! We just had the longest and one unforgettable semester break. Reviewing the past events and looking forward to the month of Thanksgiving, there are truly a lot of things that we can think of so that we remain grateful despite the 7.2 earthquake and over two thousand aftershocks and still counting...
October 15, 2013 will be remembered by many Boholanos and Cebuanos. That fateful morning, where were you? Were you still in bed because it was a national holiday? What were you doing? It was a little past the hour of 8:00 and I had just arrived in school. I went up to my office; went to the pantry to boil some water for a cup of tea. I went back to the office getting ready to work. Suddenly the earth was shaking violently; it was accompanied by a deep rolling sound coming from beneath the ground. EARTHQUAKE! "Duck, Cover, Hold" I remembered the instructions. After the rumbling sound, I hurriedly left the office taking the stairs down the building. With every step I took, I prayed and thanked God that the students were NOT in school that day..."Thank you, Lord...Thank you, Lord." God is all-wise and all-knowing; He had everything planned; everything was in place according to His purpose and perfect plan.
Thank you, Lord...for allowing us to finish all exams in both English and Chinese.
Thank you, Lord...it was a holiday.
Thank you, Lord...it happened daytime.
Thank you, Lord...no one in the PCGS family was seriously injured (as far as we know)
Thank you, Lord...it happened before the malls opened.
Thank you, Lord (you can add your own thanksgiving...)
We thank God that all the buildings in school are still standing although cracks were found in many places. The buildings were already inspected by a structural engineer who had certified that all buildings in school passed the minimum structural standards to assure public safety, stability for business operation. Likewise, a team from the office of the City Engineer came to inspect our buildings and had given us clearance that allows us to resume operation.

Director's Teapot
This is the verse to remind us of the quarter's emphasis - be inspiring. It is not natural for us to tell someone how good he/she does his/her work; or how well he/she sings; or how beautiful she looks, etc. Unknowingly, we have joined the forces of the "crabs inside the basket" which pull down anyone that tries to climb out. Hence, we have the phrase "crab mentality" describing the tendency to pull down anyone who tries to "go up the ladder."
We can all use some inspiring words that build up confidence and self-esteem instead of critical words that wound and leave deep scars. We all need encouraging words to cause us to rise up to the challenge instead of discouraging comments that put down even the best efforts.
As we celebrate Teachers Day this month, let me suggest some ways to encourage our teachers...
* Speak more kindly of our teachers before others instead of bad-mouthing them;
* Esteem them with love and respect before your children;
* Focus more on the teachers' good qualities than their occasional mistakes;
* Compliment them for a job well done; appreciate them;
* Pray for them instead of gossiping about them.
* Do not wait till they retire to express your appreciation.
Let us be more encouraging; let us value people more than earthly possessions; let us make it a habit to look for the good qualities in others; let us become persons who cause others to succeed and look good; let us never give up on people.

Director's Teapot
"Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth" (1 John 3:18, NIV).
This quarter, our character trait emphasis is love. The verse quoted above gives two basic requirements of love - love must be demonstrated; love must be genuine. Love is an action word. It is not passive; it cannot be hidden. It must be expressed. We can talk about love all day long but if we do not practice it, love remains only a word. Love also has to be practiced in truth. Love must be sincere, genuine and honest. This implies that to love truthfully does not come naturally or easily; it has to be practiced; it has to be learned.
- In school, love is sharing my snack with a classmate who forgot to bring one; it is helping another carry a heavy bag to the room; it is doing good anyway even if others spitefully insult your well- meaning intentions; love is giving up your turn to play in order that another can play...love is opening up the circle for another to get in.
- At home, love is obeying parents; love says to the younger sibling, "Let me help you with homework;" love is driving kids to school on time; love is giving up my favorite show so daddy can watch his "primetime news"; love is helping mommy with house chores; love is speaking the truth.
"Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching," Jesus said (John 14:23).

Words of Welcome from the School Director
Dr. Wanda Po Liam Giok
Dear Parents,
I'd like to welcome you and your child to Philippine Christian Gospel School (PCGS)! Our school was founded in 1948 by mission-driven members of the Cebu Gospel Church. Sixty-five years ago, our founders committed themselves to establish a school that will provide an education centered and guided by the teachings of the Bible. It would be an education that will prepare its students to meaningful and abundant living in the world. Today, we continue to pursue our founders' ideals and mission in a rapid-changing world. Our guiding principle is still the Word of God but our methods are continually adapting to the changing times and needs.
If you are a new parent, you are most welcome to a school year of new beginnings for you and your child. Thank you for choosing PCGS to be your child's school. We look forward to serving you, fellowshipping with you, and partnering with you in your child's education. To our returning parents, welcome back! I thank you for your continued trust and confidence in us. Together, let us strive to make this school year better than the last. Quite honestly, we cannot do this without your wholehearted support in our programs and policies. So, let us continue encouraging one another and building pleasant memories of our partnership, to last not only while you are here with us but for a lifetime.

DIRECTOR'S TEAPOT
Blessed New Year to all! Most children including adults look forward to new toys, new dress, new shirt, new bag, new shoes; new cellphone of the latest model, new iPhone, new TV set, etc., anything "new" seems good to the eyes. The Bible also speaks of things that are new - a new heart, new life, new mind, new heaven and new earth...The first list of things is temporal; these things will all be superseded by the "latest model or the latest trend" and they will all pass away. The second list is what will remain. Let us therefore throw away everything that corrupts our minds, hearts and lives. Let us instead fill our minds and hearts with what truly matters; let us invest in lives of people, not on things; let us nurture and strengthen our relationships with God and significant others; let us look forward to the new heaven and the new earth that are prepared for all who had received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
For this quarter, our Character Trait Emphasis is "ENTHUSIASM," which is defined as "expressing joy in each task as I give it my BEST effort." (Character First Handouts)
To demonstrate ENTHUSIASM, I will...
>Be an energy-giver
>Smile
>Treat every task as important
>Put my whole heart into what I do
>Not be discouraged by failure.
Our memory verse this quarter from Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us that "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving."
